Welcome. My name is Bart and today is a somewhat special for me. Today, I launch “Wake Up and Start Living”, my blog about finding happiness. I have been thinking about starting a blog for several years now and have finally made the decision to actually do just that.

It is hard to put into words how excited I am about this project. My energy levels have been through the roof the past few days.

You can read more about me and my blog in the “about” section. In this first post, though, I want to tell you a bit about what drove me to start this blog and why it took me such a long time.

Finding happiness has been a constant in my life since I was sixteen, I am now in my late twenties, to give you an idea. Even though I do not claim to have found the answer to the question “How do I find happiness?”, I have learned some important lessons.

The past two years, in particular, have been so instrumental for me that I have now come to a point in my life that I am almost constantly happy. With “happy”, I don’t mean that I am smiling all the time and skipping on my way to work. The kind of happiness I’m talking about is this subtle stream of peace and balance that flows through your body and life.

Instead of looking at the negative side of things, I ask myself the question “What does this situation or person teach me?”. Another important aspect is being content with what you’ve got. I know this sounds old school, but if you really get the idea of being content with your situation, then it strikes a chord within you that blows you of your feet.

Living in the now

When someone tells you to live in the now instead of worrying about the past or future, you might think “been there, done that”. It has become a popular phrase to live in the now. However, if you truly understand the concept of living in the now, you experience this at a whole new level. With this blog, I will tell you all about it. I will try to bring you to that point where you experience that shift in perception and see your entire world as “the now”.

I won’t make this blog into a concentration of posts about serious subjects. Don’t worry. Things, such as humor and passion, are so important in life that I cannot imagine living without them and I will definitely write about these topics as well. If you associate this blog with a feeling of joy or even hope, then I have done a good job.

What’s next?

I plan to post three to four times a week. If you wish to stay up to date with the ongoings of my blog, feel free to follow me on Twitter or subscribe to my RSS feed. My primary goal is to bring you one step closer to happiness and discover what life is all about. Don’t worry, I’ll hold your hand along the way.
